In 2013, Ros put her binders in two roller suitcases and took them to her congressman, Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY). Immediately, Congressman Maloney said, “I have children, too. I will write a bill.”

On September 16, 2014, during the 113th Congress, Representatives Maloney and Chris Gibson (R-NY) introduced The Ravi Thackurdeen Safe Student Study Abroad Act (H.R. 5485). This bill asks for transparent safety data from the study abroad industry.

On September 17, 2015, during the 114th Congress, H.R. 5485 was reintroduced as H.R. 3551. This bill been referred to The House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
